What are the types of flooring and which one to choose ?

To choose the best flooring for our home, we have to take into account different variables that will determine the choice: the type of wood, the tone, the durability, the laying system, the light or humidity that will exist in the room, the maintenance it requires, the type of furniture that will combine with the flooring. It is important to note that there is no ideal material, it all depends on the specific needs of each client, the budget available and the use we want to make of it. Indeed, what are the types of flooring ? That is the question.

Vinyl flooring

The main advantage of this type of flooring is that it does not swell and is moisture resistant. In addition, the vinyl can be laid directly on top of the previous floor, always taking into account the flatness and uniformity of the surface, which makes it possible to work faster. Another advantage of this type of floor is its ease of cleaning and maintenance, as it does not retain dirt on the surface. This is the case of the sidewalk we chose in the integral reform of the Puerto Rico street in Ruzafa, whose image we show you here. In this case, we chose vinyl oak flooring from the Tarkett house over the entire surface of the house, including the wet areas, which brings uniformity, continuity and warmth to the whole project.

Laminate flooring

Laminate flooring uses compact, high-density fiberboard with a decorative layer on the surface that imitates the colors of the wood and a so-called overlay, a transparent layer placed on top that offers resistance to wear and tear. The installation system is generally floating and thanks to the advanced click system, there is no need to use glue between boards. There are different qualities depending on the thickness and size of the boards, as well as the type of click. If we compare with other types of parquet, we can see that laminate flooring offers greater hardness and resistance than vinyl. As for floating parquet, which we will come back to later, the replacement of parts is much easier in laminate floors. As an example of a house in which we used laminate flooring, we show you the complete reform we are carrying out in Bétera. In this case, we opted for a large Parador floor, the Trendtime model, which also offers a lifetime guarantee for domestic use. First and foremost, the main advantage : wood is a noble material that provides unique warmth. Wood is also softer than synthetic material, which makes it much more pleasant. And what about the feeling, nothing to see! It is a type of floor covering that can be carved and varnished. The number of sanding operations depends on the thickness of this noble layer, which is usually between 2.5 mm and at least 6.5 mm. Normally, the thickness determines the price and the number of times it can be sanded. Would you like to see a very original example ? In the integral reform that we carried out in Hernán Cortés Street, we opted for a floating floor of the Kahrs brand, beveled on all four sides, which gives it a lot of presence. In this case, we also raised it at the head and the result couldn't be more beautiful, don't you think ?

The advantages of parquet flooring

This type of flooring is always a nod to the old. These styles of parquet flooring date back to the early 17th century, when the high nobility hired craftsmen to carry out prodigious marquetry work on their floors. Its installation must be careful and thoughtful in order to follow the indicated geometrical scheme. It will be glued to the support, so it must be well leveled. We have used it in a reform that we carried out in C/Matías Perelló, in the Ruzafa district of Valencia. In this case, it was placed at the point of Hungary, with a satin varnish. It requires meticulous work of placing the boards one by one with adhesive, sanding and varnishing. The result is spectacular, don't you think ? It is characterized by a very hard floor and by its mosaic aspect. This floor is similar to oak strip flooring, but it is very small strips, which allows for more use of this material. Industrial parquet consists of square or rectangular solid wood planks, without tongue and groove, with a thickness of 10 mm to 20 mm. These planks are laid on the edge in small tiles. It is a long-lasting, very striking and original floor with a wide variety of tones and shapes.
